DIY Lawn Care Tips

March is here, which means that spring is right around the corner! Your grass is about to go through many changes as it wakes up from its hibernation. It is important to know how to protect your lawn and get it back to its green, luscious look that it had prior to winter. We have put together a list of common spring lawn care mistakes to help answer any questions you may have on your journey to achieving the lawn that you've always dreamed about.

1. Assess for damage - take a walk around your yard to assess for any damage caused by

snow or areas where grass has been matted down.

2. Clean-up - remove any leaves and debris from lawn and landscape beds.

3. Choose your tools accordingly - do not use a rake on matted down grass. Instead, use

your blower or simply mow the lawn.

4. Start prepping - get your mower prepped and ready for mowing season by sharpening

the blades. A dull blade causes damage to your grass.

5. Identify areas that need reseeded - find the bare spots in your lawn and reach out for

advice to reseed these areas. If these spots are left bare, there is a higher probability of

them filling in with weeds.

Professional Tips:

1. Mow your lawn at the highest setting or 3-3.5 inch length in order to maintain healthy

grass.

2. Keep an eye on areas alongside concrete or pavement as well as areas near landscape

beds. These areas are more likely to get weeds due to trimming or edging done in the

early spring which exposes soil, making it an ideal spot for weed seeds to germinate.

Pay extra special attention to these areas.
